• Never shake your baby! No matter what happens or how you feel, never shake your baby. Shaking can cause permanent brain damage and can even lead to death! If you feel overwhelmed or angry with your baby, put him or her in a safe place (e.g. in the crib). Move away from your child briefly even if he or she is crying. Try to calm down before you go back to your child – and seek support. For acute crisis situations, you will find an emergency plan with Emergency & Help section.
  • Try not to feed your baby every time he or she starts to cry. Too much food can lead to overfeeding (especially with bottle feeds), which also can cause your child to cry.
  • Don’t wean your baby prematurely because you fear that he or she might be too hungry. Your baby’s crying is most likely not due to the fact that the baby is hungry and not getting enough milk. Breast milk has all the nutrients your baby needs to grow and thrive.
  • If your baby is older than 3 – 4 months, try not to react immediately to your baby’s slight whining every time. Give them the opportunity to learn how to soothe themselves.
  • Do not give your baby any medication without consulting your pediatrician or midwife.
  • Ask your pediatrician before you go to a chiropractor.
