In Mastering sleeping problems Part I: Practical tips for dealing with your child, we explain what you can do to help your baby fall asleep and stay asleep and also what you should not do.

You should seek professional help:

  • If there is no improvement of the problems.
  • If your child also has co-occurring problems eating or/and is crying a lot.
  • If you are seriously concerned about your child’s development.
  • If everything is just too much for you and you don’t know how to deal with the sleep problems.
  • If you get angry with your child and are about to hurt them to keep them calm (for acute crisis situations, you can find an emergency plan with emergency contacts in the Emergency & Help section).
  • If you feel powerless or constantly sad for weeks.
  • If nothing is fun anymore, you often cry or you are very irritable.
  • If you would prefer not to live anymore. In this case, please seek assistance immediately. In the Emergency & Help section, you can find emergency numbers.
