Everything that we adults take for granted when eating, babies first have to learn – e.g. sucking, swallowing, chewing or what it feels like to be hungry or full. Your child will also have to get used to firmer foods and new tastes later on. Your baby may not like new food straight away and may spit it out again at first. This is completely normal. Even if it is often very difficult, try to remain as relaxed and patient as possible. Never force your child to eat! It is very important for your child to enjoy eating.

You can also spend family time together when feeding and later when eating together – make sure that there are not too many distractions for your child while eating (no TV, no radio, no toys). Your child learns by imitating you. So remember that you are its role model at mealtimes, too!
